How does a self-cleaning cat litter box work?

A self-cleaning cat litter box cleans itself automatically – almost as if you've hired a little cleaning cat that discreetly tidy up after every business. Except it doesn't shed whiskers or take a nap in the middle of the job. 😸


The automatic cat litter box starts the cleaning cycle automatically as soon as your cat uses the toilet and leaves. So you no longer have to worry about cleaning daily – the toilet does it for you.

During the cleaning cycle, clumps are reliably separated from the clean litter and moved to a waste compartment. This keeps the cat litter hygienic and unpleasant odors stay in the waste container. For you, this means: even more hygiene with minimal effort.

With our smartphone app, you always have an overview. You can control cleaning cycles, receive notifications, and even monitor your cat's usage behavior.

And the best part: Thanks to clever safety mechanisms, the process stops immediately if your cat jumps back into the toilet. This makes usage absolutely safe and comfortable – for you and your furry friend.

Which cat litter can I use?

We recommend our Catsplan cat litter as it clumps very quickly and is completely natural, but other cat litters can also be used.

Fine-grained, quick-clumping litter is most suitable. Silicate litter or coarse-grained varieties are less suitable.

Are self-cleaning cat litter boxes safe for my cat?

Yes! The toilet is absolutely safe to use. It is equipped with multiple highly sensitive sensors that reliably detect whether your cat enters or leaves the toilet. As soon as movement or weight is registered, the device automatically interrupts any active cleaning cycle. This ensures that the mechanism is not active while your cat is still in the toilet.

Thanks to this intelligent sensor technology, you can be confident that your feline friend is protected at all times – whether she is curiously returning or staying longer. The materials used are also specially designed for cats: robust, non-toxic, and comfortable, so your cat feels completely at ease.

How often do I need to empty the collection tray or clean the litter box?

How often the waste container needs to be emptied depends on the number of cats. As a rule, it is sufficient to empty the collection container every few days – with multiple cats, more frequent emptying is recommended.

A thorough cleaning of the toilet is only necessary as needed, depending on the level of soiling. Many of our customers and employees report that they clean their cat toilet every few months, while others do it somewhat more regularly.

Cleaning itself is straightforward: individual parts can be easily removed and cleaned, and some are even dishwasher safe. This keeps the toilet always hygienic and ready for use.

Doesn't the cat litter box smell after a certain amount of time?

The litter box itself remains odor-free – only the waste can eventually smell if the collection container is not emptied regularly. Even the cleverest self-cleaning cat toilet cannot make the clumps disappear by magic – while it does automatically remove the clumps and keeps the toilet and cat litter clean, you still have to dispose of the waste yourself eventually. Otherwise, the typical "cat smell" will spread. How often you need to take out the waste depends on the number of cats and the sensitivity of your nose. As a rule, it is sufficient to empty the collection container every few days.

Is my cat getting used to her new toilet?

In most cases, acclimatization takes only a few days. Our customers recommend the following tips to help your indoor cat quickly accept the new toilet:

  • Place the new toilet where the old one was – this way your cat will find its way more easily.
  • Initially use the cat litter that your cat is already familiar with.
  • Add some used litter so your cat recognizes the familiar scent.
  • Wait before using automatic cleaning at first: Even though it works very quietly, new sounds can initially frighten your cat. Instead, use manual cleaning via the app or button control.

Most importantly: give your cat time. Our experience shows that most cats readily accept the new toilet. 🐾

Which payment methods do you offer?

We accept all common payment methods: credit card (Visa/Mastercard), PayPal, Klarna (invoice & instant), Google Pay, Apple Pay, or Shopify Pay.

We unfortunately cannot accept treats from your indoor tiger – even though we know they are particularly convincing!

Can I change or cancel my order?

As long as your order hasn't been shipped yet, we can change or cancel it, but be quick: our orders fly out the door as fast as a mouse being chased by a cat!

We deliver within Germany and to most European countries – almost as quick as a cat on the kitchen table! 🐾

Shipping costs

  • Germany: Free shipping with DHL from €100 order value.
    Below €100, shipping costs €4.99.
  • Austria: Free shipping with DHL from €100 order value.
    Below €100, shipping costs €14.99.
  • Switzerland: Shipping costs are determined by partners such as MeinEinkauf.ch or Grenzpaket, through which you can conveniently order goods from Germany to Switzerland.
  • EU abroad: Flat rate of €14.99 shipping with DHL.
How long does shipping take?

Your order typically arrives within 2–4 business days – about as long as your indoor cat's typical nap on the sofa. 😸

Once your package is on its way, you'll receive a tracking number via email.

We ship with DHL so your package arrives safely, lightning-fast, and without any cat tricks!

Do you offer shipping outside of Germany?

Yes, we deliver within Germany, Austria, and to most EU countries.

Deliveries to Switzerland are the exception – here we recommend partners such as MeinEinkauf.ch or Grenzpaket, through which you can conveniently order goods from Germany to Switzerland.

Your package travels safely and quickly with DHL – without any naps along the way! 🐾 Each order receives a tracking number, which we'll send you by email, so you can conveniently track your package at any time.

Which shipping company will my order be shipped with?

We ship with DHL – your package arrives safely and lightning-fast to you, faster than your indoor cat sprints to the food bowl! 🐱

Every order receives a tracking number via email, so you can always see exactly where your package is purring its way to.

I have placed an order, where is my delivery?

Your order usually arrives within 3–4 business days – roughly as long as your indoor cat's typical nap on the sofa. 😸

Once your package is on its way, we'll send you a tracking number by email. With it, you can track exactly where your order is roaming and when it will arrive at your place.

By the way, our chatbot (in the bottom right corner of every page) also always knows where your package is hiding – just enter your email and order number (you'll find it in your order confirmation).

My package arrived damaged – what should I do?

If the box is heavily damaged during transport, you can refuse to accept it – we don't want your package to look like a scratched-up scratching post! 🐾

If you've already accepted the package, please check the contents and contact our customer service right away – we'll make sure everything purrs again.

I made a mistake in the delivery address – what now?

Contact our customer service as quickly as a cat darts to its favorite spot! 😺

As long as your order hasn't been shipped yet, we'll be happy to change the delivery address for you.

My package appears to be delivered but I haven't received it - what now?

If your package is shown as delivered by DHL but you have not received it, please first check whether it was left with a neighbor or at a branch office. Also check the delivery location settings on the DHL website.

If you still cannot find your package, contact DHL immediately with the DHL tracking number that we sent you in the shipping notification email.

If nothing helps or you cannot find your tracking number, please contact our customer service directly. We will then initiate an investigation together with DHL and make sure your package is found quickly.

What does "14 days money-back guarantee" mean

14-day money-back guarantee means you can test any of our products for 14 days completely risk-free. Even the most demanding indoor cat has enough time to get used to the new product – and you can peacefully experience how much it makes your everyday life easier!

If you or your little furry friend don't like it, you can return it within 14 days free of charge – even if it's already been unpacked or used.

Please don't throw away the original packaging – otherwise returns can get hairy!

Before returning, please clean used products and pack them securely in the original packaging – then both you and your kitty will be happy.

Is there a right of return even if I have already used the product?

Yes, you can also return used products within 14 days – even if your indoor cat has already inspected them.

Please clean them first and pack them securely in the original packaging, otherwise the return could get hairy!

For heavily soiled products, a small cleaning fee applies.

Must I clean the product before I return it within the 14 days?

Yes, please clean the product as thoroughly as possible before returning it. Especially if it's a cat litter box, our staff appreciate receiving the product in a clean condition.

Should an item be returned in a heavily soiled state, we reserve the right to deduct a small cleaning fee from your refund.

How do I get my money back if I return something?

Once your return has been received by us, we will inspect the condition and completeness of the products – this usually takes 2–5 business days.

If the product is heavily soiled, a small cleaning fee will apply, which we will deduct from your refund.

After that, we will refund the amount to your original payment method.

You will receive a confirmation email immediately.

Please understand that depending on your bank, it may take a few more days for the money to be credited to your account.

What guarantee is there?

Our products come with a statutory warranty of 2 years. But even better: when you purchase our products, you get lifetime customer service from us – whether you have questions, a small part breaks, or your house cat has hidden it again.
